Books for Boomers: Reviews & Coaching Tips
Books for Boomers: Reviews & Coaching Tips
Baby Boomers are aware that they are experiencing different types of life issues than the previous generation. With the oldest boomers now reaching 65 years of age in 2011, this book explores a wide range of these issues: love, marriage, friendship, hopes, happiness, encore careers, health, fitness, parenting and aging along with retirement readiness.

Most Baby Boomers (the cohort of Americans born between 1946 and 1964) believe that they will still be working during their retirement years.

Eight in ten say they plan to work at least part-time–and others envision starting their own business or working full-time at a new job or career–according to an AARP Segmentation Analysis: Baby Boomers Envision Their Retirement.

By 2015, estimates the National Council on the Aging, 20% of the U.S. work force will be over age 55, up from 13% in 2000. This “phased retirement” of Baby Boomers will shape the American workplace and compensate for a severe talent gap due to a shrinking supply of new workforce entrants. Phased retirement will allow Baby Boomers to engage in work they enjoy while providing needed income.

This book is based on boomer generation book reviews previously published on The Baby Booomer Life Tips blog at http://www.SoBabyBoomer.com and future blog postings can viewed on this website or may be downloaded automatically to your Kindle by subscription at the Kindle Store.

Career as a Midwife (Careers Ebooks)
CERTIFIED NURSE-MIDWIFE (CNM)

DIRECT-ENTRY MIDWIFE (CM, CPM)

DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE VIRTUES OF natural childbirth? Do you love the thought of coaching women through life’s most amazing event? Does the thought of listening to a fetal heart rate monitor get your own heart pumping? Are you unfazed by the challenge of a schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays? If so, midwifery could be the perfect career choice for you.

Compared to other options in the healthcare field, midwifery is one of the most versatile and desirable careers available. There are several career paths and specialties to choose from in this field. There are a variety of licensing and certification options and work environments available. The job outlook, with its higher than average growth rate, makes it even more attractive.

Although the profession of nurse-midwifery is fairly new in the United States, traditional midwives are common in other parts of the world and have been around since ancient times. Attracted by hands-on care and lower costs, more expectant parents turn to certified nurse-midwives. Each year, more than 300,000 babies are born in the United States, delivered by nurse-midwives.

As more individuals become attuned to the benefits of natural childbirth and holistic well-being, midwifery is becoming more and more popular. A growing number of women believe that natural childbirth is an empowering way to bring a new life into the world. They want to experience delivery as it was meant to be. There are very real benefits to choosing a midwife over a traditional hospital delivery. Women who deliver with a nurse-midwife in the US statistically have better outcomes, with fewer unnecessary medical or technological interventions. Plus, it is much less expensive, unless the mother has health¬care insurance that includes the costs of delivery.
In the United States, there are two types of midwives: a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) and a direct-entry midwife (DEM). A CNM is a registered nurse who has also taken a graduate level midwifery program. Certified nurse-midwives enjoy the most versatile careers because they are able to practice legally in any state. A CNM is more likely to work out of or through a hospital, and is also allowed to prescribe medication.

A direct-entry midwife is educated in midwifery, but does not have training as a nurse. This type of midwife is more likely to work in an independent collective of midwives and will assist in home births and births in birthing centers. However, the DEM is not permitted to prescribe medication.

Both types of midwives are trained to do more than deliver babies. They are capable of taking care of women’s health by conducting routine exams, providing birth control options, offering guidance through adolescence and menopause, and much more. There are many women who consider their midwives their primary healthcare provider. However, midwives will always refer their patient to another medical professional when necessary. In fact, midwives rarely work alone. Instead, they work as members of the healthcare team alongside doctors, nurses, and other professionals.

Midwifery is definitely a field that is on the rise. As more people learn about the benefits of working with a midwife, the opportunities will continue to increase. It can be a very rewarding and lucrative career, although the hours may be extensive and unpredictable.

If you enjoy helping people, working in a collaborative environment, and bringing new lives into the world, this may be the career you are looking for.
